East Side
About East Side
The popular East Side Milwaukee Wisconsin neighborhood is one of the prettiest areas of the city. Milwaukee is located directly on Lake Michigan, and the East Side neighborhood extends for four miles along the beach from downtown, at the south end, to the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM) at the north end. Home to many students, artists, and professionals, the East Side Milwaukee Wisconsin is a neighborhood of spacious brick duplexes, single family homes, and elegant apartment buildings. Rentals and real estate prices are very reasonable. Public transportation is convenient, but many prefer to walk or bike to get around. Bradford and McKinley Beaches join together on the lakefront to create an uninterrupted stretch of sandy beach for swimming, sunning, volleyball, and people-watching. Across the street are picnic areas and lots of grassy space. There's a yacht club and McKinley Marina. Every July 3rd, the lakefront area is the scene of a large fireworks display. Many people watch the pyrotechnics aboard small yachts anchored in the harbor. Closer to downtown and also on the waterfront is the futuristic Milwaukee Art Museum with more than 25,000 original works of art in its permanent collection. The Museum is the setting for the annual Lakefront Festival of Arts every year. The area also hosts the annual Summerfest event. Billed as "the world's largest music festival," Summerfest also features food, fun, and a full carnival. The East Side Milwaukee Wisconsin neighborhood above the beach is packed with sports bars, local watering holes, student hangouts, coffee houses, upscale boutiques, bookstores, gourmet food stores, and a great many restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes. The downtown mall and business district are all within walking distance.
